Travel Writing

For my travel writing internship with Beau Monde Traveler, I apply many class concepts to real-world scenarios and have been given the opportunity to not only build on my writing and editing skills, but also learn an entirely new style of writing.

          In early August 2023, I became an intern for Beau Monde Traveler (BMT), a luxury travel publication. I've included three of my articles to show a portion of what my job entails. To write articles, I first must research viable options, then email a press contact with the business to obtain access to their press kit. After that is established, I must extensively research the activity or experience to fully understand what the event is about so that I can then accurately write about it. Once my editor approves the article, I begin the process of selecting relevant photos and videos to upload alongside the text in WordPress.

          Travel writing has been challenging and much more difficult than I expected. There have been many times that it has reminded me of grant writing, which also felt deceptively tricky. Initially, both seemed easy because of the plain language required; however, travel writing requires a level of honesty with the reader with minimal fluff. This is tough to balance, because the article needs to read like a story, but with as many facts as possible.
